"Let us first teach little children to breathe, to vibrate, to feel, and to become one with the general harmony and movement of nature. Let us first produce a beautiful human being, a dancing child."

DANCE EDUCATION
Children learn best when they are permitted to move and experience their environment. In dance class, students develop physically, interact socially, problem-solve cognitively, and self-express aesthetically in fun and imaginative ways. Concepts focusing on Body, Energy, Space, and Time (B.E.S.T) are practiced in a creative, non-competitive atmosphere, allowing children to progress at their own rate. Introduction to various dance styles in an interdisciplinary approach builds technical skills and instills appreciation for the arts. Choice making in guided movement activities builds confidence and allows every child to experience success.

NATIONAL CORE ARTS STANdaRDS IN DANCE
The Dance curriculum at AAECS will be guided by the National Core Arts Standards in Dance.
"The NCAS in Dance are designed to enable students to achieve dance literacy. To be literate [in dance] means discovering the expressive elements of dance; knowing the terminology that is used to comprehend dance; having a clear sense of embodying dance; and being able to reflect, critique, and connect personal experience to dance. The NCAS in Dance are rooted in a creative approach to teaching and learning. They describe expectations for learning in dance regardless of culture, style, or genre and impart the breadth and depth of the dance experience through the art-making processes.
